Built in 1752, the original part of this structure was used as part of a ferry operation. It was purchased by Samuel McConkey in 1776, and the business became known as McConkey’s Ferry and McConkey’s Ferry Inn. That year General Washington made his final plans and had Christmas dinner at the inn prior to the attack on Trenton. Washington used the inn after the battle to house Hessian officers captured at Trenton. The inn also served as a guard post for the Continental Army during their Bucks County encampment in December 1776.

Spring Garden Mill

 |
Spring Garden Mill was constructed on a 5 acre parcel along the banks of the Neshaminy Creek in 1819 just south of what is now Newtown - Richboro Road. A fire in 1867 destroyed most of the interior of the mill, but was rebuilt ten years later. It was also in this time that the stone walls were coated with stucco, giving it the appearance it has today. Around 1920 George Tyler purchased the mill and several farms in the area, all of which subsequently became part of Tyler State Park.
