The
house was begun in 1715 as a log cabin by Robert Hillborn, with
the main stone section and barn being constructed in the mid-18th
century by Peter Taylor, a prosperous Quaker farmer. Ownership
changed hands numerous times over the years until William Shull
sold the property to Bucks County in 1972 as part of a flood control
project. The house and land are currently leased to tenants. A
support group, Friends of the Farmstead, Inc., has been successful
in placing the farm structures on the National Register of Historic
Places.

Built
in 1752 the original part of this structure was used as part of
a ferry operation. It was purchased by Samuel McConkey in 1776
and the business became known as McConkey's Ferry and McConkey's
Ferry Inn. Later that year General Washington and his aides made
their final plans and had Christmas dinner at the inn prior to
the Christmas evening attack on Trenton. Washington used the inn
after the battle to house some Hessian officers captured at Trenton.
The inn also served as a guard post for the continental army during
their Bucks County encampment in December 1776.
