The house was begun in 1715 as a log cabin by Robert Hillborn, with the main stone section and barn being constructed in the mid-18th century by Peter Taylor, a prosperous Quaker farmer. Ownership changed hands numerous times over the years until William Shull sold the property to Bucks County in 1972 as part of a flood control project. The house and land are currently leased to tenants. A support group, Friends of the Farmstead, Inc., has been successful in placing the farm structures on the National Register of Historic Places.
